My Role

Product Design Architect

I led the design of the product architecture during the early stage of the platform. My responsibilities included: • defining the core product structure and navigation model • designing interaction patterns for live cooking sessions • shaping the relationship between video, recipes, and user interaction • establishing the visual direction of the platform • collaborating closely with founders and engineers during product definition As the primary designer at this stage, my role extended beyond UI design into defining how the platform operates as a product system.

Overview

Context

Kittch is a platform designed to connect professional chefs and food enthusiasts through live cooking experiences. The product allows chefs to stream cooking sessions while viewers follow along, learn recipes, and cook in real time from their own kitchens. The platform was built from the ground up and required defining the product architecture, interaction model, and experience across multiple user roles. The challenge was to design a system that supports both creators and viewers while maintaining a seamless and engaging cooking experience.

Core Problem

Designing a product that serves both creators and viewers simultaneously.

Unlike traditional streaming platforms, Kittch required a product experience that worked for two distinct user groups: • chefs who host and manage live cooking sessions • viewers who watch, follow recipes, and cook along Key challenges included: • designing interaction models for live cooking sessions • balancing creator tools with viewer simplicity • structuring recipe content alongside video streaming • maintaining engagement during longer cooking sessions The product needed to support a multi-sided platform while keeping the experience intuitive for both audiences.

Exploration

Defining the experience of live cooking

The early design phase focused on understanding how cooking differs from other live streaming formats. Cooking is a slower, step-based activity that requires users to follow instructions, manage ingredients, and interact with the host simultaneously. Exploration focused on: • structuring live sessions around cooking steps • integrating recipe content with live video • designing viewer interaction during cooking • enabling creators to manage sessions effectively These explorations helped define how the platform balances entertainment with practical learning.

Solution

A creator-driven live cooking platform

The final product experience introduced a structured live cooking format where chefs guide viewers through recipes step by step. The platform combines live streaming with structured recipe content, allowing viewers to follow instructions while watching the session. Key elements of the solution included: • a streamlined interface for discovering live cooking sessions • integrated recipe steps synchronized with the live stream • tools for chefs to manage their sessions and engage with viewers • a product structure that supports both live and recorded content This approach allowed the platform to support both content creation and interactive cooking experiences.

Impact

Product foundation

As an early-stage product, the focus of this work was establishing the foundation of the platform experience. Key outcomes included: • defining the core product architecture • creating interaction models for live cooking sessions • establishing the visual and structural direction of the platform • enabling a scalable experience for creators and viewers The design work helped shape the product direction and provided a clear foundation for further platform development.

Reflection

Designing Kittch required balancing the needs of two very different audiences within one coherent product experience. The project reinforced the importance of designing platform systems that support both creators and consumers while keeping the experience simple enough for everyday use.
